How to Spot a Real One

The handcuff bag concept has been copied a lot. We're flattered, mostly. Here's how to tell the difference between an original CUFFZ and something that borrowed the idea without the history. Still not sure? DM @cuffzbylinz on Instagram — I'll do my best to identify it.

Early production.Police-grade nickel-plated handcuffs with the CUFFZ logo embossed on the body plate and a working keyhole. Substantial weight — these are real handcuffs, not props.

Later production.Once we figured out how to manufacture our own handcuffs, we did. Gunmetal finish, cleaner profile, CUFFZ oval logo still embossed. Also fully functional. Limited runs in gold-dipped, bronze, and Swarovski-encrusted finishes.

On a real CUFFZ, the handcuff is the bag's handle — the bag hangs from the cuff itself, permanently attached to the bag body via a chain. It's structural. The cuffs do not detach or clip on as an accessory. The key attaches to the zipper pull. Pick it up: real handcuffs have a weight that a decorative prop simply doesn't.

Every era of CUFFZ production had a different lining and tag. None of them used nylon, polyester, or thin synthetic fabric — if the inside feels cheap, it's not the real thing.

Earliest.Ivory/champagne jacquard with a tonal leaf pattern. Real texture and weight. Mid-era woven CUFFZ tag with "made in Los Angeles."

Dupioni silk.The distinctive horizontal ribbed texture is unmistakable — this is dupioni silk, not polyester. Later rectangular "CUFFZ / Los Angeles" tag in gold embroidery.

Monogrammed.Custom black lining with the CUFFZ wordmark repeated allover in pink and white blackletter. Highly collectible.

All authentic CUFFZ tags are black background, always woven, always sewn in — never printed, never heat-applied or glued.

Woven label.Black background, white blackletter "CUFFZ by" + hot pink embroidered script "Linz," hot pink border stitching. Some include "made in Los Angeles" below. Shown with bright pink satin lining — one of several solid color options.

Same tag, different lining.The woven CUFFZ by Linz label appears across multiple colorways and lining colors — here with powder blue satin. The tag is consistent; the lining is not.

• Dolls Kill "Chord" bag — nylon/polyester construction, removable handcuffs that clip on as an accessory, no leather, no key. The tell: the cuffs come off.
• Minga London "Mugshot" bag — 100% PU vegan leather, decorative antique-silver cuffs with D-ring and buckle detailing, no working key, one colorway only (black). Good-looking bag, completely different thing. The cuffs are hardware, not handcuffs.
• Generic "handcuff bag" listings — decorative or removable cuffs, synthetic materials, no working key, no named colorway, thin synthetic lining, no interior tag. If you're still not sure, DM @cuffzbylinz on Instagram.
